ProtonVPN is the only free and safe VPN you can leave on all the time. Thats because it doesnt impose any data limits whatsoever.
You can use ProtonVPN as much as you want, completely free, and without adverts.
The VPN delivers good speeds, protects against IP leaks, and has a privacy-friendly logging policy.
While its an excellent VPN for security, it only gives access to 3 free server locations. It also doesnt work for streaming, or with P2P traffic.
Best Free VPN For Torrenting In 2021
You are here for getting a free VPN for torrenting, and you will get a fair solution here. But I also want to maintain the reputation of my recommendation by not just providing random options but also making sure that the called-out VPNs are torrent-friendly and secure too.
Unfortunately, while testing free VPNs for torrenting, I faced numerous security risks, proven by authentic reports and researches too. But, sticking to the mission, I have figured out an investment-free way through which you can select the best VPN for torrenting. Those best-performing VPNs are not free, but they let you test the services via free trial and money-back guarantee without risk of losing money.
Here are the quick free trial VPN which give you a 30-days refund policy, without asking any question, NordVPN & ExpressVPN are the best PureVPN would not refund the money if you have used the specific amount of bandwidth.
Tips On How To Choose The Best Free VPN
There are a few main things you need to look out for when choosing a free VPN. During my tests, I used the following criteria to rank these top free VPNs:
- Really free If a VPN is really free, you dont have to commit to a subscription. Plus, a really free VPN shouldnt require you to give your payment details.
- Strong security and privacy The VPN should have industry standard encryption, as well as a kill switch, and IP/DNS leak protection. I made sure to check all the log policies of the free VPNs so the ones on this list dont store logs that can identify you and keep you safe.
- Good speeds with enough data The VPN should have good speeds with enough data to browse the internet without slowdowns. Also look for free VPNs that offer a number of free servers because your speeds will generally be faster .
- Support torrenting If you want a free VPN for torrenting, make sure that it has servers that support this activity. Not all free VPNs support P2P file sharing.
- Can unblock some streaming sites Most free VPNs wont unblock streaming sites. Thats because of small server networks that arent frequently updated to keep up with VPN blocks. They can also have slow speeds and limit your data too much to stream in good quality. The only 2 on this list that could manage this were ExpressVPN and Kaspersky Secure Connection.

Hotspot Shield Good For Web Browsing
Hotspot Shields free plan allows you to connect only one device, provides access to one server , and has a daily limit of 500 MB/per day. While this data allowance might not sound like a lot, Hotspot Shield actually gives you more data per month than most free VPNs on the market. That said, I dont like that any unused data isnt rolled over to the next day.
I also dont like that Hotspot Shield throttles internet speeds to just 2 Mbps. However, in my tests, websites took 2-3 seconds to load, and I was able to watch videos on YouTube in standard definition without any buffering .
Unfortunately, Hotspot Shields free plan doesnt support streaming youll need to upgrade to one of Hotspot Shields paid plans to access top streaming sites like Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, and others.
Hotspot Shields Premium and Premium Family plans both allow unlimited streaming, have fast speeds , provide access to servers in 80+ countries, and let you connect up to 25 devices at the same time.
Free VPN For Ios And Android
VPNs for smartphones are becoming more popular. Not only do we use our smartphones more and more, but we also connect them to unprotected Wi-Fi networks more often than we do with a computer. A free VPN definitely adds value for any smartphone user.
Nearly all good free VPNs offer applications for both Android and iOS. All free VPN providers we mention in our overview above offer free software for both Android and iOS.

Free VPN For All Your Devices
Most good free VPNs offer software and apps that are compatible with the most common devices and operating systems. This means that such VPNs are easy to install on your computer, smartphone, and tablet. Some VPNs even offer software for lesser-used operating systems, making it possible to use a free VPN on Linux, for instance. We will briefly discuss the various devices below.
You Can Catch Malware
Let’s get this out of the way right now: 38% of free Android VPNs contain malware, a CSIRO study found. And yes, many of those free VPNs were highly rated apps with millions of downloads. If you’re a free user, your odds of catching a nasty bug are greater than 1 in 3.
So ask yourself which costs less: a secure VPN service for about $100 a year, or hiring an identity theft recovery firm after some chump steals your bank account login and Social Security number?
But it couldn’t happen to you, right? Wrong. Mobile ransomware attacks are skyrocketing. Symantec detected more than 18 million mobile malware instances in 2018 alone, constituting a 54% year-over-year increase in variants. And last year, Kaspersky noted a 60% spike in password-stealing Trojans.
But malware isn’t the only way to make money if you’re running a free VPN service. There’s an even easier way.

Zenmate: Suitable For Torrenting
It has other basic features of good VPNs as well. Thanks to its low price and dedicated servers for P2P connections, I recommend this service for the exchange of free content specifically.
ZenMate also proclaims its streaming support and has a separate list of servers dedicated to it. However, as of this day, the most popular US, UK, and JP locations are unavailable.
ZenMate is built upon the base of CyberGhost VPN. They share the owner, parts of their technological infrastructure and have similar software. Thanks to it, ZenMate supports all major platforms and doesnt have any childlike issues that are common in many simple VPNs.
ZenMate: Speed tests results
+ Strong AES-256 encryption with 4096-bit RSA key

– No settings for routers and Linux
– The Russian jurisdiction
Kaspersky VPN Secure Connection is a quality product from an expert in the field of information security. And it has good conditions of using a free VPN if the location isnt important. But the Russian jurisdiction of Kaspersky is controversial. On the one hand, it is definitely outside the intelligence alliances that can secretly monitor the citizens and guests of Canada. And on the other hand, Russia is not a friendly country for the US and the region of North America.
You may choose this VPN if for some reason other providers didnt suit you.
How Do Free VPNs Make Money
VPNs arent free to run. There are development, infrastructure, and staff costs, to list a few. It isnt really possible to run a VPN for free.
How a free VPN makes its money is really important. As the saying goes: if you arent paying for a product, then you are the product. These are most common ways free VPNs make money:
- Being subsidized by a paid service
- Selling user data
Its safer to choose free VPNs that are subsidized by paid VPN services. Windscribe, TunnelBear, and ProtonVPN are good examples. These companies dont have to monetize their free applications directly.
The worst free VPNs make money by selling your browsing data to advertisers and other third parties. At best, youre made into a product for marketers. At worst, your personal details are sold online.
In short, paid VPNs are almost always better than free VPNs. They are faster, more secure, and dont have data usage limits.

Is A Free VPN Good And Worth Getting
Getting a free VPN is worth it when all you need is staying anonymous when using public wifi or when you find a VPN that fits your specific needs.
However, subscribing to a paid service will usually be a better choice. It will give you a much broader range of servers to choose from, better speeds , and the possibility to unblock Netflix and other streaming websites.
Youll also be able to use a single account on multiple devices and use the VPN without worrying about exceeding your monthly data limit.
What Is The Best Streaming VPN 2021
Right now, the answer to that question is the all-round excellent ExpressVPN. According to our recent testing, it unlocks the lot: Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, Disney+, YouTube…everything! That’s a really impressive track record, but it also benefits from being fantastic to use and making you safer online with a litany of clever security features.

Protonvpnunlimited Bandwidth With 3 Servers
- Offers 39 Mbps on a 100 Mbps connection.
- Compatible with Android, iOS, Windows, Fire Stick, Mac, Smart TVs, and more.
- Comes with a kill switch, an ad-blocker, AES 256-bit encryption, DNS leak protection, etc.
- Unblocks YouTube.
ProtonVPN is an all-around powerful free Canada VPN for Windows 10, macOS, iPhone, Android, and more. It is also one great Ubuntu VPN. It is rare for free providers to offer unlimited bandwidth. ProtonVPN is a part of this elite group of VPNs with no data caps.
This VPN offers 3 servers only on its free plan that are located in the US, Netherlands, and Japan. However, the downside of this VPN is that it cannot unblock any streaming service except YouTube.
As for speeds, ProtonVPN offers average speeds on all its servers. This may be the cause of traffic overload due to limited servers. During my testing on 100 Mbps, it gave off an average speed of 39 Mbps, which is quite similar to Windscribe.
The provider offers decent privacy with its no-logs policy and strong AES-256 encryption. It also offers a DNS leak protection feature that ensures to not leak user IP to the world. A built-in ad-blocker is yet another feature that is quite effective in ProtonVPN.
Although there are no Canadian servers in ProtonVPNs free plan, you can still use the other servers to deal with geo-restrictions on some websites and generally improve online privacy within Canada.

- Data Cap:
TunnelBear Free is trustworthy, safe, and ideal for beginners. Its easy to use and verified to be safe, but it isnt good for torrenting or streaming.
Its also limited by a 500MB monthly data cap, which is very restrictive.
Aside from that, the free version of TunnelBear is exactly the same as the paid version. That means youll get great speeds, advanced security features, and access to 23 worldwide server locations.

Zoogvpn Best Free VPN For Firetv
A free zero-logs VPN provider with a limited number of servers that can be used on one device at a time.
|Visit ZoogVPN website|
Why should you choose ZoogVPN and what sets it apart from the competition?
ZoogVPN offers users multiple encryption protocols. Free users can choose between IKEv2 and OpenVPN. Paying users have additional protocols to choose from. But for most users, OpenVPN will suffice, as this is a very suitable protocol for security and speed.
This VPN works on Windows, Mac, Apple, and Android devices. There are is also support for AndroidTV and FireTV.
When testing the free application of ZoogVPN we discovered there is a kill switch functionality! This is a feature you can turn on and off, and it ensures that all internet traffic is interrupted whenever the secure VPN connection unexpectedly drops. The presence of a kill switch is pretty special for a free VPN and we felt that it is definitely a feature worth mentioning.
When should you avoid ZoogVPN? Some limitations of this provider
The big downside when it comes to ZoogVPNs encryption is the 128-bit encryption instead of the AES 256-bit offered by other free VPNs. Why they would purposely choose to provide their free users with lesser encryption is lost on us.
If you have a free package with ZoogVPN, you can only use 3 servers in the entire server network. These servers are located in The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.

What Streaming Services Work With A VPN
The list is practically endless here – it would probably be quicker to list services that aren’t unblockable by a VPN.
From our testing and using VPNs ourselves we’ve found that you can unblock Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Peacock, BBC iPlayer, Sling TV, Dazn, YouTube, Disney+, Fubo, All 4, ITV Hub, and a whole host more domestic networks. If you’re a little unsure and don’t want to commit to a service without first knowing whether it will work with your streaming service of choice, then we’d recommend going for a VPN with a free trial and put it through its paces risk free.

Moving on, we have Hide.Me that is one effective free VPN for Canada. This VPN offers 10 GB of data for an entire month which is perfectly fine for catching up on a few videos and torrenting some files.
This VPN offers 5 servers only on its free plan. However, one good thing is that these 5 server locations include a server in Canada. However, using these free servers, I could only access YouTube, Kodi, and Spotify to listen to some music for a bit.
Hide.Me comes with better speeds than all the VPNs listed which makes browsing and streaming generally better with this VPN. I tested this VPN on my 100 Mbps connection, and it gave me a consistent speed of 58 Mbps, with no delays while browsing.
Even with a free plan, this VPN offers AES-256-bit encryption, DNS leak protection, a built-in kill switch, and a zero-logs policy.
It is compatible with macOS, Windows, Android, and iOS devices. If your VPN usage is high, the bandwidth limit of this VPN would be enough for you for at least a few days.

What Do You Get For Your Money
TunnelBear’s biggest drawback is that it doesn’t offer much beyond VPN protection. Editors’ Choice winners IVPN, NordVPN and ProtonVPN are among the few VPNs that offer multi-hop connections, which use a second VPN server for extra security. A few grant push-button access to the free Tor anonymization network. TunnelBear has none of these.
Previously, TunnelBear forbade the use of its services for P2P file sharing or BitTorrenting. Thankfully, those days are gone. You can now use it to torrent over VPN to your heart’s content. It does not, however, include split tunneling, which lets you designate what traffic should pass through the VPN or bypass the VPN.
Some VPNs have expanded their purview beyond securing web traffic. Hotspot Shield grants access to a whole suite of privacy services, while NordVPN now offers subscriptions for a file locker and a password manager. TunnelBear has stayed focused on VPN protection but does offer the RememBear password manager. It’s free to use on one device, but if you want the convenience of syncing across all your devices, you must pay $36 per year . A subscription to RememBear is bundled with the three-year TunnelBear subscription.

Servers And Server Locations
Hotspot Shield says it provides servers in “80+” countries. That’s a strong selection, and not far behind the 94 countries served by ExpressVPN. Servers in more places gives you more options for spoofing your location, and it means there’s likely to be a server near your location.
Especially notable is the variety of locations served by Hotspot Shield. It has servers in four African countries and servers across South America, two regions frequently ignored by VPN companies. Hotspot Shield also provides servers in regions with repressive internet policies, such as China, Russia, Turkey, and Vietnam.
Hotspot Shield has a respectable 1,800-some servers available. CyberGhost has the biggest fleet we’ve seen, with over 6,800. Having more servers doesn’t necessarily mean better service, but it does generally mean you have more options to find something that works.
Many VPN services use virtual servers, which are software-defined servers. A single machine could play host to several virtual servers. Similarly, a virtual location is a server that’s configured to appear somewhere other than where it physically resides. Neither is inherently problematic, but we prefer that companies be clear about their infrastructure and where it is located. If your data passes through a given country, you might be subject to that country’s laws or surveillance regimes.
