This isnt guaranteed to work, but you can often get a new IP address by unplugging your internet modem and plugging it back in again. When you lose the connection to your ISP, your old IP address will get recycled. When you re-establish a connection, youll be assigned a new IP address.
The longer you leave the modem unplugged, the more likely this tactic will work. Try leaving it unplugged overnight if you have to.
Your ISP must use dynamic IP addresses for this to work. Most do.

The streaming services want to limit who can see their content based on physical location. And needless to say, many people are looking for the best streaming VPN to unblock content from around the world.

As a result, Netflix and VPN companies are locked in a cat-and-mouse game, with Netflix blocking VPN users and VPN companies finding ways around the blockade.
Fortunately for Norton, Secure VPN was not blocked by Netflix in my testing. Your mileage, however, may vary.

If your VPN needs are simple, or you’re looking for a VPN and a security suite, then Norton Secure VPN’s back-to-basics approach might appeal. Experts will be frustrated by the lack of features, though, the Windows kill switch is a concern, and there are many more capable, faster and cheaper VPNs around.
Two Ways To Hide Your Search History
Even if youre using a private browsing mode, your IP information is still being collected. The only methods for hiding your search history and staying anonymous online are to use a virtual private network , such as Norton Secure VPN, or a special anonymization service, like Tor.
Tor, a shortened form of The Onion Router, works by sending your encrypted and re-encrypted data through several random nodes on the Internet, creating a circuitous route. Its similar to how you might try to throw someone off your trail while playing hide-and-seek in the woods: by taking a hard-to-follow route and erasing your footprints. Because the various nodes only know the IP address from the node before and after, none of the nodes knows the complete pathway the data takes. Plus, each completed pathway is only valid for 10 minutes and then Tor generates new random paths. However, your data is not encrypted at the exit node.
With a VPN, your online activities are anonymized and protected because the VPN masks your IP address and encrypts your data throughout the entire transmission. Instead of sending information directly from your IP address, by using a VPN service the VPN servers IP address is the one associated with your activity. If your VPN service provider has servers around the world, you could appear to be connecting to the Internet from Berlin when youre actually in Mumbai.

Ip And Dns Leak Test Proved That Norton Secure VPN Is Safe To Use
I couldnt identify any DNS or IP leaks on Norton Secure VPNs servers. These tests allowed me to see if the VPN would leave my information exposed. Its purpose is to hide my IP address and location and block IPv6 requests from my network.
Depending on the browser you use and its configuration, your IP address may still be visible which is the exact thing you want to avoid. Besides, some VPNs have trouble blocking IPv6 requests, leaving sensitive data uncovered.
To start, I used ipleak.net on Norton Secure VPNs US server, and it was secure! It couldnt identify any leaks, IPv6 was blocked, and my information was completely hidden.
I then moved to test the Netherlands, UK, and Germany servers, and the connection was safe every time. I was impressed with Nortons performance. The problem is that most of its apps dont have a kill switch. This means that if the VPN fails, your information may be exposed after all.
Norton Secure VPN has great security features, but the lack of compatibility is very inconvenient. Even if the system is overall trustworthy, its still lacking some very important security features on some devices such as split tunneling and a kill switch. This means that no matter what you do, youre never 100% safe. I would recommend a VPN that has all of these features on every device to boost your security even more.
Unblocked: Netflix And Uktv
Norton Secure VPN could only unblock UKTV and Netflix, which is a little disappointing. The good part is that my connection was fast enough to stream shows on these platforms without lag or buffering. I tested Norton Secure VPN with Criminal Minds which is only available on Netflix US. However, my speeds experienced a significant decrease while I was connected to the VPN if I didnt have a fast connection in the first place, I would have experienced a lot of buffering.
Even though Netflix has strong geo-restrictions, Norton Secure VPN managed to get around them. I was impressed by this because this VPN is only intended to protect you from hackers and data leaks, not streaming content.
UKTV was very easy to unblock too. I connected to a UK server, and I had full, unlimited access to the platform. On top of that, the connection was great. I didnt experience slowdowns or changes in quality.

If you ask Norton, they will say either the Norton Secure VPN for pc or the Norton Secure VPN app does not collect any personally-identifiable information about a users web activity or internet traffic. The company has a 100% no-log policy, so anything the user does online shouldnt be recorded or tracked.
Norton publishes a list of data its VPN solution collects, if you want to get into the nitty gritty of the product. But simply put, Norton admits to collecting user IP addresses, but they make sure the information is anonymized. This way, the company is able to address weaknesses of Norton VPNs own features, while securing the online privacy and security of its clients.
A major plus point goes to Norton Secure VPN because the company doesnt earn money from anything else, except for the client subscription. So you dont need to worry about your personal information being sold to third-party companies, as what smaller, sketchier companies have been known to do for extra profit.
Like other US-based VPN providers, NortonLifeLock isnt subjected to mandatory data retention laws. The company is headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, so if local law enforcement demands Norton to collect or hand over a users information or activity history online, the company isnt legally required to break customer privacy and just follow such demands.
Inconsistent And Sometimes Slow Speeds
For this Norton VPN review we ran tests with servers around the world. All tests were conducted on a 500 Mbps connection from the United States.
There was no way to select the city for speed tests, but instead you can only select the country.
First, we tested the US, which should have offered the fastest speeds. The Norton VPN server in the US was geolocated somewhere in New York. It only gave us about 50 Mbps:
Next, I tested a Norton VPN server in Canada. This server was a bit faster at 84 Mbps, but still a far cry from our baseline speed of 500 Mbps.
While this server speed test was a bit better than before, it is not in the realm of our best VPNs for Canada, which are consistently faster than Norton VPN.
Next, I tested a Norton VPN server in the United Kingdom. This was the worst speed test result of them all, at only 7 Mbps:
Finally, I tested a Norton VPN server in Germany, which gave me about 45 Mbps.
Overall, these are not very good speeds. These slow speeds could visibly affect performance when interacting with websites or online games.
If performance is your top priority, you may want to look at other options. The 7 Mbps test results were bad. And even the fastest test result, at 84 Mbps, it not very good performance when you consider the 500 Mbps baseline connection speed.
Comparison: When testing out WireGuard vs OpenVPN speeds, we were able to hit 445 Mbps with NordVPN using the WireGuard protocol and a nearby server. This was our fastest VPN speed test result.

Norton Secure VPN is a mediocre service. While it’s fast and cheap, it only provides basic security and it’s not ideal for streaming. Torrenting activity is completely forbidden and there is no VPN kill switch. For the same price, you can get a much better VPN than Norton VPN.

What Is A No
A no-log VPN is one that doesnt collect and use the data that you send through the VPN, such as the websites you visit or your downloads.
Because people use VPNs to enhance their privacy, you might think all VPNs would be no-log VPNs. Not so.
Some VPN providers do collect a minimal amount of user information, such as your email, but these exceptions to the rule should be available in the VPN providers privacy policy. Norton Secure VPN does not keep logs.

Norton Secure VPN collects subscriber information for communication purposes, mobile device data, and aggregate bandwidth usage. Its important to note that Norton Secure VPN does not log information about where you go on the internet.
Use A Proxy To Hide Your Ip Address
Like a VPN, a proxy acts as a middleman between your device and the internet. Websites and apps see the IP address of the proxy server and not your real IP address.
In fact, a VPN is technically a type of proxy. But when I say proxy, Im usually referring to either an SSL, SSH, or SOCKS proxy. These types of proxies typically lack the encryption and other security features offered by VPNs, but they do hide your IP address from websites. They can be configured in existing apps like your browser or, like a VPN, use a third-party app.
Proxies usually dont usually include DNS traffic, so your website requests still go to a third-party DNS server that can see your real IP address. VPNs with leak protection dont have this problem. Furthermore, your real IP could be exposed if the proxy connection drops for some reason.
Because proxies lack the authentication of VPNs, they are also more susceptible to man-in-the-middle attacks, in which an attacker can pose as the proxy server to steal your data.
Some VPNs offer HTTPS proxies as browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox. These do a decent job of protecting your browser, but other apps and DNS requests can still expose your IP address.
