Opera VPN Review Conclusion
After taking a close look at OperaVPN for this review, I cant recommend the service. The data collection policies are horrible and undermine any privacy benefit you might receive from encrypting your browser traffic.
This one again proves the old saying true: if something is free, you are probably the product. With Opera VPN, this is indeed the case as you are paying for the free service with your private data, which is monetized by Opera, ad companies, and a plethora of third-party partners.
There are many better options to consider.
User Reviews For Opera VPN

Really Great for ME
For this review, Opera is trash but seeing as the ONLY one that is built-in and absolutely free, is what I can say great. Also, I don’t need ultimate protection for now . I can also log to sites which otherwise I can’t.

Needs an update
After Opera browser update to the Reborn 3 engine, this review needs an update, too. In my case, the built-in VPN gets full speeds out of my connection, this is great, with mediocre ping and good streaming capabilities.

I only need it for this
I can’t afford to pay for any thing currently. And I don’t really need to secure anything but my browser ONLY. The only thing that I don’t like is webrtc and the slow speed and possibly the fact that they collect my data and giving me an option to stop it. Does anyone know how to stop them from collecting my data and to stop the webrtc problem? And is Asia faster than America?

Opera sort of scam

Well maybe if you live in Turkey, it’s ok.
First of all I am happy that I have found great review of Opera VPN. All of the points I definitely agree. However as you probably know Turkish Government have started blocking some VPNs download pages. Basically to download a VPN you need a VPN Service! And Opera VPN is one of the few left which still works.

Does Brave Browser Have A VPN
There are several different free browsers available for the PC, but one of the most important questions you should ask yourself is: Does brave browser have a VPN? A VPN is essential for the safety of your data online. Without a VPN, you risk exposing sensitive information, and your personal data may be compromised. A VPN will protect you from such dangers by providing an encrypted connection. A VPN will also make your computer act like a local network, sending all data through a secure connection.
Brave uses an encrypted network to protect your browsing. This means that your IP address will not be visible to anyone. In other words, your privacy and security will be protected. This feature isnt as advanced as the VPN that comes with the browser, but its a good substitute. A good VPN should also be free, as many people dont need this. While Brave doesnt have a built-in VPN, it has many other features that make it worth a try.
If youre concerned about your security and want to use a VPN, you can download a free VPN for Brave. You can also install the VPN on up to five devices. Unlike the WireGuard-based browsers, Braves VPN is based on the traditional IKEv2 protocol. However, you cant change the settings of the VPN. If youre not comfortable with it, you can always uninstall it and try again.

Using A Premium VPN Service
For the best protection, privacy, and security, we recommend using a premium standalone VPN. There are lots to choose from, so if you want to know where to begin, check out our list of the best VPNs. If you’re concerned about the price, then don’t worry, there are plenty of cheap VPNs on the market. A good VPN doesn’t have to cost the world, but it’s important that you find the right one for you.
Is Opera VPN Fast
For all tests with this Opera VPN review, I was using an Opera browser inside a Windows 10 virtual machine. Because I did not want to give Opera my private IP address, I first connected to a VPN on the host computer, thereby encrypting and securing all traffic.
To run speed tests, I first checked my VPN connection to a nearby server in Luxembourg, which was providing about 85 Mbps. Then I selected Optimal location within Opera VPN for testing, since this would probably give me the best speeds.
Running some speed tests using the site speediest.net, I was getting around 30 to 35 Mbps download speeds.
Given that my baseline speed was 85 Mbps and Opera VPN was only providing about 33 Mbps, I would conclude that Opera is not the fastest VPN we have tested.
Faster VPNs There are many VPNs available that are faster than Opera VPN. Our top two recommendations are Surfshark and NordVPN. And now that these VPNs support the WireGuard VPN protocol, they offer excellent speeds. We have even run head-to-head tests, as you can see in the NordVPN vs Surfshark comparison.

Do I Recommend Opera VPN
This is a free VPN and you dont need to buy it, but its STILL not even worth using.
Jurisdiction issues, leaks, no kill switch, no torrenting, and no customer support. This is like my ultimate VPN nightmare.
The only reason you should even consider using this product is if you want to use a VPN to watch Netflix. But even then, you cant select a country to connect to, so you have no idea which regional content youll get.
And to top it all off, its not even a VPN.
Its a proxy misrepresenting itself.
Which means there is no encryption, no tunneling, no protection, and no device support.
There is no silver lining here. There is no well maybe if you wanna do this, its ok.
This is just a bad VPN option.
Out of the 78 VPNs weve reviewed, we rank Opera VPN at number 76.

How A Virtual Private Network Protects You
When you connect to a website without a VPN service, the website can see your IP address. However, when using a VPN connection, internet traffic and private data is encrypted and routed through a remote VPN server so the website sees the address of the server, rather than yours. This is especially useful when you get internet access through public Wi-Fi or have an internet connection that is accessed by other devices.
Opera’s free VPN gives you unlimited access to our fast and free VPN servers, with a strict no-logging policy, and free access to multiple VPN server locations, so you can choose a location that is optimal for you and your internet service provider.

You Can Sign Up For Opera VPN Anonymously
One privacy advantage Opera VPN does offer is that you do not need to sign up to use the service. This means there is no need to provide your email address, payment information, or any other personally identifiable information before you start using it.
This is better than the vast majority of VPNs, where you need to create an account or register payment information in order to use the product.
Nonetheless, Operas intrusive logging policy means the browser collects information that can easily be used to trace your activity back to you. In reality, the lack of a sign-up process is a convenience and a small anonymity boost, but nothing more.
How Fast Is Opera VPN
Everyone understands that if youâre going to use a secure VPN connection, youâre going to lose a little bit of your Internet speed. That is just par for the course. The problem comes when you notice huge dips in performance in the name of âanonymityâ.
Whatâs even worse is when youâre not even promised anonymity and youâre forced to suffer through slow service.
This is what you get with Opera VPN.
Here you see speeds that are way down in the unacceptable territory. This one is slightly better, but itâs definitely nothing to write home about.
This is one of the slowest VPN connections we have ever seen. So Opera VPN can unblock Netflix. But the connection is so slow that streaming your favorite movie or television series on Netflix goes from being enjoyable to being a nightmare.

How To Use Opera VPN
Ok, so maybe you still want to try out Opera VPN despite all the privacy risks and data collection practices. Heres how.
1. First, you need to download the Opera browser for your operating system, which you can get here.
2. Then, select Settings from the menu .
3. On the left side of the page, click on the Privacy & Security section and then scroll down to the VPN preferences. From there, simply toggle the VPN on.
4. With Opera VPN now enabled, you will then see the blue VPN icon in the address bar. Clicking this will open up a drop-down menu to turn the VPN on/off and also select a region.
Like other browser proxies Ive tested, its a simple setup without many features or customization options. Weve covered other VPNs that offer browser proxies, as discussed in our guide on the best VPNs for Chrome.
On a positive note, Opera VPN is very simple and easy to use.

Protect Your Privacy With Opera’s Free VPN Service
The best things in life are free, and your online privacy and security should be no exception. Virtual Private Networks protect your privacy and online activity from third parties with an encrypted connection for your internet traffic.
While free VPN providers may be hard to come by, Opera proves that it is still possible to have a reliable VPN service for both mobile and desktop without having to pay and without browser extensions. This free service is built into Opera Browser, both for your computer and Android device, giving you enhanced privacy online wherever you are.
How Much Privacy Does Opera VPN Offer
Opera has been offering VPN-like services for a while. This revolutionary company introduced Turbo browsing and mobile data compression years ago. These features essentially acted as a proxy and routed traffic from the companys Norwegian servers to considerably speed up user experience.
VPN browser integration is proven to work for most Internet navigation needs. Opera is certainly a trustworthy company, and thus users can feel comfortable about features such as the AES-256 encryption and the ability to change their IP to unblock content and to circumvent censorship measures such as the Great Chinese Firewall. To this effect, Opera VPN users should not feel unprotected as long as they are using an Opera browser and the address bar indicates that the VPN feature is on.
As far as the rest of the smartphone and tablet apps being protected, users cannot be reassured unless the app itself has a feature to check how it connects to the Internet. Even within the Opera browser, plugins such as WebRTC for browser-based video calling may not work well with the VPN integration however, this is something that will likely be improved in the future.
With more than ten years of experience, NordVPN is a leading VPN provider. NordVPN gives you military-grade protection online, and you can access all your favorite sites without restriction.

Does Opera For Ios Have VPN
A new Opera VPN app has just been launched for iOS, and it is, once again, free and unlimited. The servers of some third-party VPN apps are paid for by advertising. Opera, by contrast, promises to remain free forever, without requiring any subscription.
No Customer Service Whatsoever
Opera VPN makes one thing clear from the get-go.
They do not want to speak with you.
If you have questions or need help, there is a link to click on their VPN provider features page.
Thats it. Thats all the help youre getting.
No contact form. No phone number. No chatbot.
There is an Opera user support forum, but it is for the browser as a whole with no section dedicated to their VPN service.

Is Opera Browser VPN A Real VPN
Opera Browser VPN can be considered a real service, although it is not a VPN app.
A VPN app would protect all of your traffic, in and out of your browser. Opera, as mentioned, only hides your in-browser activities. As such, it acts more like a browser extension of a VPN service, rather than the real app.
It does have its positives, such as:
- It is free.
- It lets you browse privately.
- Reduces tracking.
- Works out of the box.
- Encrypts your traffic and routes it through its remote servers to protect you from websites you visit.
However, it also has its downsides, including:
- It is only available within the browser.
- Speed tests have shown that its speed is unstable.
- It doesn’t offer servers based on country locations.
- It is bad for streaming.
- File downloads can get interrupted.
- It logs some data.
- No customer support.
- Lacks encryption.
In the end, Opera VPN acts more like a proxy than a real VPN, and if you require services of an actual VPN, you should definitely look elsewhere. But, if you just want a bit of extra privacy for free, OperaVPN is just as good as any proxy.
How To Use Opera
Opera is available for Windows, Mac, Linux, and in a portable version designed to be stored on a USB stick. And a slightly different version is available for Android and iOS phones, while theres even a basic version for older, less advanced smartphones. Thats a nice touch and characteristic of the creative thinking behind the browser.
Using all of the versions should be fairly straightforward. They are available on the Opera homepage, and theyll simply auto-install onto your chosen system.
When youre up and running, plenty of features contribute to ease-of-use, including:
- Swift load times usually beat the performance of Chrome or Firefox.
- An unusual sidebar setup where you can pin frequently visited websites as well as different settings, giving you flexibility about things like privacy and caches.
- Like Chrome, but unlike Firefox, the address and search bars are combined, saving space and making it easier to find what you need.
- The browser is fully compatible with voice commands, adding another dimension to web browsing.
- Syncing is available across versions of the browser on computers and tablets so that you can send over links and documents easily.
- Icons can be pinned to toolbars in the browser, giving one-click access to external apps like email clients.
And remember, the basic Opera setup is modeled on Google Chrome. So if youre familiar with Googles browser, getting up and running wont be a problem.

Third Party Data Collection
Our applications and services include third-party technology or code, some of which may use your data in different ways. When such third-party technologies use previously collected data, they typically act as data processors for us.
These third parties include Google, Facebook, Yandex, Outbrain, and over a dozen others.
Opera is also collecting your location for targeted ads.
Can I Use A Free Standalone VPN Service Instead
Depending on what you need, a free VPN service may work better than a VPN browser. However, they still won’t work as well as a premium VPN service. When deciding on VPNs, it’s important to remember that free VPNs:
- Often restrict users’ data and speed slowing your overall internet speed and even stopping your browsing completely.
- Regularly struggle with geo-spoofing.
- Are known to sell on user information and data.
- Have been known to infect devices with malware.

Opera VPN Servers And Locations
In terms of locations, Opera VPN has three of them:
If this sounds a little too broad – well, it is. You cant choose a specific country like with other VPNs or even proxy services – theres only the possibility to pick a whole continent.
Simply put, youll get a random country. I dont know whether the country list rotates from time to time, but right now, I was able to connect to Indonesia, the Netherlands, and the USA.
In case you need a specific country to unblock the content you need, you should consider getting a real VPN service. For example, NordVPN offers 5100 servers in 60 countries and even lets you connect to the same server each time you use the program.
Is Opera VPN Safe And Secure
Lots of people are wondering if Operas free VPN is safe and secure. According to many experts, the answer is no, Opera VPN is not safe or secure.
When setting up the proxy, the browser requests a device_id which contains a unique user ID. This device_id is sent to the proxy for every browsing request and will remain permanently tied to the browser.
This becomes worrisome when you look at Operas business model. According to their privacy statement Opera reserves the right to pass on data to third parties for advertising and marketing purposes. Additionally, SurfEasy logs Usage and Bandwidth data.
In summary: Not only is Operas Free VPN no VPN at all, but you also potentially compromise your privacy when using it. As the saying goes: If you are not paying for the product, chances are that YOU are the product.
This issue becomes even more interesting when you examine who owns Opera
