Avast SecureLine VPN – Why you need it

Avast VPN did NOT leak IP and DNS. It passed the WebRTC test as well. I connected to an Israel server of Avast VPN and visited the IPLeak website to check for any leaks.

Here is the screenshot:

If you see the IP address in the leak test, it is the same Virtual IP given to me by Avast VPN as you can see in the picture below:

The Virtual IP and the IP mentioned in the leak test website must be the same. Otherwise, it may be leaking. You can have a look at our IP Leak Test guide to see which VPNs pass the leak test.

Streamlined For Ease Of Use

If youre looking for the easiest, download-and-go VPN client, Avast SecureLine VPN gives you that. If theres one thing Avast is known for, it is simplistic, clean security tools that almost any user can operate. Its VPN apps for computers and mobile devices are no exception. Once you purchase, you simply download and use the emailed code to activate.

Avast SecureLine VPN is an incredibly barebones app, so it will save you time not having to mess around with features or research techie terms to understand what youre doing. It offers the most basic VPN features, like a simple pull-down menu to choose a server or automatically connect to one and language options. Thats literally it. Avast couldnt have made it much easier.

Does Avast Secureline VPN Leak Your Information

Avast SecureLine is safe to use since it does not reveal your actual whereabouts online, be it an IP address, DNS, and WebRTC information. Furthermore, its Windows app is free from viruses or malware, and as a result, your devices will not get infected. Here are the proofs:

The Avast Secureline VPN Website

Avast SecureLine VPN doesnt have a separate website. Instead, theres an informative one-pager about SecureLine on Avasts general website. All info is in one place, but sadly this information is very limited.

The page is very organized and clear. Youll find explanations about the different functions of the VPN, its different servers, prices, and extra options. Every section has a small arrow you can click to read more detailed information. Unfortunately, even this detailed section only consists of a couple of sentences. While the website looks very organized, the different aspects of the VPN arent explained as well as we wouldve liked.

How Do VPNs Work

Avast SecureLine VPN Review (2021)

The Virtual Private Network was first developed by Microsoft in 1996 as a way for remote employees to securely access the companys internal network. Once it doubled company productivity, other companies began to adopt the practice. Corporate VPNs that allow remote work are now a standard feature of the global business landscape.

Developers then realized that this secure tunnel could be utilized by average people who wanted to securely connect to the largest network on the planet: the world wide web. VPNs are now the cornerstone of online privacy in the consumer sector.

Should You Buy Avast VPN

On the surface, there are many things to like about Avast SecureLine VPN. For example, its top-notch security, reasonable speed performance, and . However, dig deeper, and youll find that the service has many flaws. For one, Avast VPN lacks coverage depth. Secondly, it offers clients for limited devices only. Third, it fails to . Fourth, even though it unblocks Netflix USA and other streaming services from Australia, the available servers are too few for our liking. And last but not least, its customer support is not that great. These drawbacks cant be ignored.

So, if you ask us whether you should pay actual money to get the Avast VPN, our answer would be no. There are much better paid VPNs out there that you can explore. However, if youre looking for a free VPN for your short-term internet privacy needs, then Avast VPN free version with a 7-day limit can definitely be a good option.

Avast VPN Server Locations

The service provides;50+ servers;across;30+ countries;globally. Compared to other VPN services that offer servers to their users in huge numbers like;NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and PureVPN, Avast VPN server spread does not look good.

But, the provider has categorized its servers based on users needs like streaming and torrenting, which is a good thing. Likewise, you can select your desired servers by choosing the continents first.

Avast Secureline VPN Review – Good or Not?

Today we are going to do Avast SecureLine VPN review but lets first understand why security matters in this digital era.

The privacy issue making headline news over social networks and websites being able to access consumer data, has led to an increased awareness and anxiety.

Internet users are worried over just how much information the web knows, and uses, based on their activity.

The Internet is a huge and open road that allows you to go where youd like, with some guides along the way.

However the bottom line is, what you search for, the sites you visit, and other things you do online can be seen by a lot of people.

This is why virtual private networks are increasingly being used today as they give Internet users an assurance that their security and privacy online is protected.

Without a VPN, your information and activity is accessible by almost anyone.

This includes your Internet Service Provider who sees everything you do and employers who control what you do online.

You are also monitored by governments that censor whatever you see while spying on you and of course the online thieves who steal your identity and hack into your accounts.

Avast SecureLine VPN is a good option if you dont want anyone to see what youre doing online.

At the click of a button, Avast VPN delivers true online privacy by encrypting your Internet connection, allowing you to enjoy the Internet your way.

Performance & Internet Connection Speed Test

When it comes to performance and impact on Internet connection speed, SecureLine VPN does a great job. Thanks to the nature of the service, there will always be a slowdown because you are essentially adding one more server to your computer and web page. The question is, how big is that slowdown?

As you can see from the table below, the benchmark was around 10 ms ping, 19 Mbps download, and 5 Mbps upload. There aren’t big differences between most of the servers, and the only exception is Brazil which slowed down the connection quite a lot.

The data has been updated in July 2018 due to the Avast new infrastructure and VPN servers.

Speed Test Results: Mediocre Performance

For this Avast VPN review, I ran speed tests on a handful of different servers in the US, Canada, and Europe. All tests were done using the Windows client and the OpenVPN protocol and AES-256 encryption on a 100 Mbps connection.

First I tested the Optimal location server, which happened to be in Seattle: 76 Mbps.

Not too bad, but also not amazing.

Next up was a server in Los Angeles: 90 Mbps.

Then I tested a New York server. The speeds were not very good at 45 Mbps.

Next up was a server in Montreal, Canada. Download speeds were 55 Mbps, again not great.

While these arent horrible speeds, Avast SecureLine is not what Id consider to be the best VPN for Canada.

Lastly, I tested a server in the UK.

Again, not great, but also not horrible.

The Avast SecureLine speed test results were about average, not good enough to be in the Pro category, but also not bad enough to be a Con. It is not the fastest VPN we have tested, but also not the slowest.

No VPN Leaks Detected

We ran the SecureLine VPN through our standard set of VPN tests, looking for things that didnt work right. The Avast SecureLine VPN apps didnt show any problems: no leaks, no crashes.

The VPN protects against DNS leaks by forcing DNS requests to go to the VPNs own DNS servers through the encrypted VPN tunnel.

The following image shows the Windows VPN in action. If you look closely on the left , you can see my Virtual IP address . Look on the right and you will see that my virtual IP address is the one that ipleak.net is seeing.

Dont worry about the IPv6 error in the preceding image. SecureLine VPN doesnt support IPv6, so of course that test will fail.

Note: You might have noticed something odd in the image above. Although you can see in the VPN window on the left that I am connected to a server in Miami, USA, ipleak.net on the right is claiming the IP address if the server I am connected to is in Italy. It turns out that the database that ipleak.net uses to map an IP address to a physical location, is not 100% accurate. The IP address does indeed correspond to Miami, FL.

We also tested the Android VPN app. It too passed the leak tests with no problems. See the best VPNs for Android here.

Do We Recommend Avast Secureline

After reviewing all of the evidence, I dont recommend using Avasts VPN service.

The company provides a reasonably good free antivirus solution. Their VPN is incredibly easy to use. And the call-in customer service option was great!

But in the end, there are just too many issues to overlook.

The fact that it doesnt work with Netflix is a big one. Not everyone wants to stream over a VPN, but its a very common use for private networks.

Czech jurisdiction, the lack of router support, and pricing thats easy to beat all combine to make this a VPN thats not at the top of my list.

Avast Secureline is certainly not a bad VPN. Its very fast, supports torrenting, and only keeps connection logs. And we found that the connection was leak free for the most part.

But you can get those features without paying as much, and its easy to find a VPN that supports Netflix. All in all, Avast isnt a bad choice, but its certainly not the best one.

For me, there are better alternatives for Avast VPN.

Avast VPN Review Verdict

My tests for this;Avast VPN review proved this is one of the best solutions. With P2P servers, torrenting, kill switch, split tunneling, encryption amongst many others, this VPN is worth a shot.

However, this VPN does store your private data due to the Czech Republics data policies.;

This company doesnt offer live chat, but the 24/7 phone support beats the option since you can speak to a human being directly.;Also, its speed isnt what Id call lightning fast. Still, its fast enough for regular users.;

Whats more?

The company gives you a whole week to try out the service and see if all the above features work for you. Besides, you get a 30-day money-back guarantee. Dont hesitate, try it now!

Torrenting Has Servers Optimized For P2p Sharing

Avast SecureLine VPN has a fleet of servers optimized for P2P sharing. These servers are easy to find in the main interface under the P2P tab in the navigation menu. You can also find these servers while searching by country since they have a P2P icon. They provide a fast connection that can make torrenting faster.

While Avast SecureLine has optimized P2P servers that allow fast torrenting, it captures and stores connection logs a huge red flag for a privacy-minded individual. Fortunately, other top-tier VPNs like Cyberghost have optimized servers for P2P and dont keep any connection logs.

    Manually Setting Up A VPN

If youve either purchased or otherwise acquired the ability to connect to a VPN server, you can manually configure your device to use it without downloading a commercial VPN app. For example, you may need to learn how to set up your own VPN to connect to your works network while at home or when traveling.

In order to create a VPN on your device, youll need to know a few details about your VPN server to get started:

    • The VPN address: For a work VPN, it may be something like vpn.yourcompany.com

    • Your login credentials: A username and password

With this information, you can begin setting up your own VPN but its not as easy as flipping a switch. Commercial VPN apps from reputable providers are designed to keep your data secure at all times. When you choose to DIY instead, you may leave yourself exposed should you make even one mistake.

VPN apps also offer crucial advantages that youll miss out on if you set up your own VPN.

But if youre unfazed by the lack of commercial VPN features and the rather involved setup process, its time to find out how to make a VPN on Windows 10, older versions of Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. Remember, youll need to already have access to a VPN server in order to set up the VPN yourself.
