A Fast Way To Remotely Access A Windows Pc Through VPN
To summarize, its possible to access files through VPN on Windows 10 without having to install additional software. But this means that you have to tinker with three devices: two computers and a router.
A bit of know-how is required, too, unless youre willing to risk compromising the security of your home network when trying to gain entry to your personal computer from work. Its not as easy as using a VPN to watch Prime Video, for example.
However, if you want to access your work PC from home through a VPN, you probably need to only create a VPN connection using the configuration details provided by your companys network administrator.
Solution : Static Ip Address
One possible solution is to get your ISP to assign a static IP address to your office. This eliminates the whole problem caused by dynamic IP addresses. The down side of this solution is that ISPs charge for static IP addresses. It may be that they charge such a small amount, that you will be happy to go with this solution.
Solution : Register Your Own Name + Dynamic Dns
If you cannot get a static IP address at an acceptable price, another approach would be to register a domain name and dynamically update the Domain Name Server for that domain name to point to your office. A DNS is just a computer on the Internet which answers the question, What is the IP address for this domain? So, for example, if you ask a DNS for the address of google.com, you will probably get an answer like: 74.125.226.80.
If your site is MyCharity.org, you could register a domain name like MyCharityOffice.com, and tell a DNS the IP address for that domain name. Note that because your IP address is dynamic, you need a DNS that can handle regular updates: a Dynamic DNS. The updates are performed by a program that you run on a computer in your office; it regularly checks its IP address and, if there is a change, informs the Dynamic DNS.
Here are some examples of this type of DNS service: dlinkddns.com, dyndns.com, no-ip.com, zoneedit.com. Some of these are free.

VPN Vs Remote Desktop
When comparing VPN vs remote desktop there are two main concerns: flexibility and security.
Flexibility. While having some similarities, VPN and remote desktop are functionally different things. A VPN will give you access to a network while remote desktop will give you control of an entire computer.
When you think about VPN vs RDP and what will be the right solution for your company or personal setup, you have to consider what you ultimately need. If you want to have full control over a local computer from a remote location, VPN wont let you achieve that. If you dont want to have to pre-plan and pre-emptively share all the folders and files you might need access to in the field, then a remote desktop is the way to go.
Since remote desktop gives you full access to your device from wherever you are, its better than a VPN when it comes to flexibility.
Security. As you consider the best way to provide remote access to a network or device, security needs to be a top priority. Any time you open up personal or sensitive data to an outside resource, you have to take into account the security vulnerabilities of your options.
When it comes to VPN vs remote desktop, some security experts recommend using a VPN over a remote desktop connection because of the level of access that remote access connections provide. But Netops remote desktop security is highly documented.

Remotely Access Your Work Computer Connected To A Tp
Working from home has recently become a reality for many as COVID-19 spread worldwide. Note that images may vary according to your computers operating system, as well as the routers model and firmware version. If you need detailed instructions, please refer to the relevant help information or user manuals.
Remote Desktop + Virtual Server
This method makes use of the computers Remote Desktop feature and the routers Virtual Server feature. It is easy to set up but may introduce security issues since it exposes the office server directly to the internet.
This method requires that your office network has a broadband connection with a public IP address. Before you set up the Virtual Server, it is recommended that you configure a Dynamic DNS service, such as the TP-Link DDNS.
To set up remote access:
1. On the office router, add a Virtual Server mapping for TCP port 3389 .

Solving The Problem Of A Dynamic Ip Address
IP numbers can be static or dynamic.
A static IP address never changes. So if your Internet Service Provider has assigned you a static IP address, then your office always has the same address. This makes it easy for your website to refer to your office the website can just use the IP address.
However, most offices have dynamic IP addresses. This means that every time your communications equipment is reset you are assigned a new IP address. This creates a problem for your website, since it will not know what the office IP address is, and so will not be able to connect to Sumac in the office.
Simplify File Share Access
Easily collaborate with business partners by providing them with access to a limited set of internal files or folders. Share files with non-AD users while maintaining administrative controls. Simplify multi-site collaboration with automatic version controls and file locking. Mobile workers will see the same content in the online shared folder as if they were from an internal mapped drive.

Configuring The Local Bridge
Once you have VPN Server installed, create a Virtual Hub and connect it to the layer 2 segment you wish to remotely connect to via local bridging. For a detailed explanation of this process please refer to section 3.6 Local Bridges.
You should be aware of the following things when making connections via a local bridge.
- As explained in detail in section 3.6 Local Bridges, if possible, try to set aside network adapters strictly for local bridging when making your local bridge connection. We recommend that you do not use a protocol stack for your local bridge network adapters, and do not assign TCP/IP IP addresses to them.
- We also recommend that you use a high quality network adapter from a trusted maker for your local bridge connections. For more information please refer to 3.6 Local Bridges.

Enough With The Talking Show Us How It Works
My testbed utilized both Windows 10 and iOS/iPadOS 14 and a fresh VyOS 1.4 rolling installation. The CA that I used in this example is CaCert so the CAs root and intermediate certificates are imported using the following two commands:
Please note that when loading the certificate you need to manually strip the —–BEGIN KEY—– and —–END KEY—– tags. Also, the certificate/key needs to be presented in a single line without line breaks , this can be done using the following shell command:
$ tail -n +2 server.key | head -n -1 | tr -d '\n'
After importing the CA certificates we also need to load our CA signed server certificates. The certificate we use is identified as “vyos”.;
set pki certificate vyos certificate 'MIIE45s...'set pki certificate vyos private key 'MIIEvgI...'
After the PKI certs are all set up we can start configuring our IPSec/IKE proposals used for key-exchange end data encryption. The used encryption ciphers and integrity algorithms vary from operating system to operating system. The ones used in this post are validated to work on both Windows 10 and iOS/iPadOS 14.
Every connection/remote-access pool we configure also needs a pool where we can draw our client IP addresses from. We provide one IPv4 and IPv6 pool. Authorized clients will receive an IPv4 address from the 192.0.2.128/25 prefix and an IPv6 address from the 2001:db8:2000::/64 prefix. We can also send some DNS nameservers down to our clients used on their connection.

Is Using The VPN Service Going To Slow Down My Computer
No, using the VPN service will not slow down your computer, but you may notice some latency in your web browsers or when you work with files on your P, S, or X drives because all of your data must travel over the Internet to our servers before anything else can happen. The latency should be very minor if you have a fast Internet connection. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to eliminate that latency because it will always take time for signals to travel over the distances involved in Internet transmission.
