How To Tell If There Are Hidden Apps Running On Your Android Device
So now you know how to find hidden apps on an Android device, but how do you know if any of these hidden apps are running in the background?
The easiest way to check for hidden apps is by looking at your phones memory usage. Manufacturers list a baseline RAM memory usage for their phones, so you can compare that number with your current RAM usage.
If you dont usually run many third-party apps, the difference shouldnt be big. If it is, it should give you something to think about. Another neat trick is to close your most used apps and compare your RAM usage after that with the RAM usage while using the phone in Safe Mode.
Safe Mode turns off all non-essential system apps and third-party apps, which should give you a good baseline for RAM usage.

Why Should You Care About The Ip Address
Before we teach you how you can change or hide the IP Address on Android devices, lets take a quick look at the dangers associated with having your real IP exposed.
- You Cant Access Region-Locked Content: There are many reasons why a country would restrict particular online material. Regardless of the reason, they limit the content by blocking it on the IP your ISP assigns.
- You are Prone to Cyberattacks: When you use your real IP on a network, anyone who knows your IP can quickly launch a cyberattack on your device. These cyberattacks may range from security exploits to privacy breaches to full-blown DDoS attacks.
- You Cant Use Your Rights to Free Speech: Freedom of speech is becoming a difficult thing to exercise these days. For instance, if you make any controversial comment against authority, you can be tracked through your real IP even if you use a pseudo profile.
Why Does Your Android Device Need An Ip Address
You might be wondering why an Android device would need an IP address?
Well, when you connect to the Internet at your home, office, or any public place, your device is among millions of other devices connected to the network. To communicate with other devices on the network, your device has to have an identity. An IP address is an identity that your device receives on a local or public network.
The communication flow on the Internet works in terms of packet flows. You send a packet to another device so it can receive it. And, you do it back and forth. Unless you know the other persons identity , you wont be able to connect and thus send any packets.
Likewise, your Android is also a device, and thus to work on the Internet, it needs to have an IP address so that it can start sending and receiving data packets.

Is your VPN working? Lets find out!
Why You Should Check For Hidden Apps
Its important to remember that not all hidden apps are good. Some are used for nefarious reasons, such as hidden communication apps. These are often used by teenagers to chat with people online without being traced. Since you never know who might be on the receiving end of your kids messages, it doesnt hurt to give the phone a thorough search every now and then.

All Packets Destined To The Same Ip
During the normal course of internet use, people and computers request data from many different sites. Each of those sites has a different IP address. When using a VPN, every single packet is destined to the VPN server. The VPN server peels the VPN encryption layer off each packet to reveal the real packet and then sends it on its way to its actual destination. The VPN server does the same with responses. It receives response packets, wraps them in an encryption layer, and then sends the packet to the users computer.
A packet capture that shows a computer sending 100% of its traffic to a single IP is a good indicator that a VPN or proxy is in use.
Psiphon is an internet censorship circumvention tool. It has an interesting function that can combat this to some degree. It has split tunnel mode which essentially only uses the Psiphon tunnel for traffic that leaves your own country.
To see how this looks at the packet level, I launched Psiphon and tested two sites. I am in Canada and heres a sample of traffic that is destined to our own .CA domain registrar. In this case, my destination is clearly visible in the packet capture.
I then visited the Comparitech website which is hosted in the United States:
What About Free VPNs
Worthwhile free VPNs are rare, but they do exist. Many VPN services offer a free trial, but it’s usually for a limited time. Others, like TunnelBear and Hotspot Shield, have totally free versions but reserve some features for paid users. ProtonVPN is our top choice for free VPNs, because it places no data limitation on free users.
Unfortunately, most VPNs are a far cry from free, but you don’t need to break the bank to get protected. After trying out a service for a month or two, you can save more by purchasing longer-term contracts. Our list of cheap VPNs is a great place to start if money is tight.

Hide The VPN Icon & Test Out The Change
Now you can disconnect your phone from your computer. Open the SystemUI Tuner app and go through the initial setup menus. Towards the end of these menus, you’ll see a prompt asking if you want to continue without granting one of the two optional permissions. Because you’ve granted the one that matters for removing the VPN icon, select “Yes” to access the main menu. From there, tap “To the tweaks!”
On the main menu, choose “Status Bar,” then scroll down and locate “VPN Icon” and tap the toggle to disable it. You have successfully hidden the VPN icon.
To ensure it worked, open your VPN app of choice and establish a connection to its server. The “key icon,” which is usually on the right side of the status bar, should no longer appear, indicating you’ve successfully hidden the icon. At this point, you can even uninstall the SystemUI Tuner app and the VPN icon will still remain hidden.
If you skimmed over the app’s terms and conditions, there are few things stated by the developer you should be aware of. First, this app will not work on TouchWiz-based devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Additionally, modifying any of the status bar icons on TouchWiz-based devices running Android 7.0 Nougat can cause crashes to occur. Therefore, those using older Samsung devices should be aware of this issue. Finally, Huawei and Xiaomi devices are likely to not work.

It is also important that you choose a VPN provider that you can trust. While your ISP cannot see your internet traffic, your VPN provider can. If your VPN provider is compromised, so are you. How To Choose The Right VPN Server
Sometimes you might not want to be connected to the server the VPN app recommends. Perhaps you want to spoof your location, use BitTorrent via VPN, or take advantage of custom servers. Or maybe the server the app recommends just doesn’t work or is very slow. Whatever the reason, the best VPNs will let you quickly and easily jump to a different VPN server.
Sometimes, VPN apps present their servers in lengthy menus or pull-down lists. The best VPN services will include search bars and highlight servers for specific activitiessuch as streaming and BitTorrenting. Many VPN companies include an interactive map as part of their app. TunnelBear and NordVPN, for example, let you click on countries to connect to servers there.
Choosing a server depends entirely on what you want to accomplish. For better speeds, you should choose a nearby server. To access region-locked content, you’ll want a server that’s local to content you want to watch. If you’re trying to watch the BBC, you’ll want to tunnel to the UK. To bypass government censorship, choose a server in a country different from your own .
Some VPN companies have specialized servers for streaming video. These specialized servers are useful because streaming services such as Netflix block VPNs. At issue are the licensing deals Netflix secures with studios, which provide different content for different regions.

There’s A Dedicated Gaming Mode In Android 12
If you play a lot of games on your Android device, you’ll be happy to know that Google is adding a dedicated Gaming Mode to Android 12. When it’s turned on, your phone will do things like automatically turn on do not disturb when you start playing.
But you’d never know the mode existed if you didn’t venture deep into, of all places, your notification settings. More specifically, go to Settings> Notifications> Do Not Disturb> Schedules. Once there, check the box next to Game Mode to turn it on. Next, tap on the Settings gear icon to and toggle both items.
In my brief experience testing it, game mode doesn’t work in every game . It does work in Call of Duty Mobile, however. When it’s active, you can do things like force your phone to optimize itself for gaming in a single-tap or view your device’s current frames per second.
