Is Avast Secureline VPN Safe

Speed: How Fast Is Avast Secureline VPN

Avast Secureline VPN: How to secure your data from cybercrooks

Surprisingly, Avast VPN turned out to have one of the lowest speed drops in the industry, easily making it one fastest VPNs in the industry. On my 100MB connection, I was getting these speeds without a VPN connection.

  • 87.92 Mbps

Heres my speed from Avast VPNs San Francisco Server from the same internet connection

  • 83.04 Mbps
  • Upload Speeds: 79.88 Mbps
  • Ping Rate: 79 Ms

Just a bit over 10% drop in download speeds is what I can term blazing fast. Too bad that Avast VPN doesnt unblock VoDs, otherwise it would have been a no-brainer to go for this VPN, as your first choice for streaming.

Fast Customer Support Through Call Center

Avast Secureline uses a ticketing system and has a number you can call for a free diagnosis.

They also offer a knowledge base full of help articles, tons of support pages, and a forum.

Since the knowledge base is searchable, users can easily find what they need by typing in a few basic keywords.

That being said, Avast doesnt offer a live chat support option and I wasnt able to find a customer support email for the company.

Both developments had me a little bummed.

They do, however, have where users can send in direct messages. I sent one in to test out how responsive their social support is.

More than three hours later, I still hadnt heard back.

The good news is that if you need support fast, Avasts phone support is available 24/7. The question, of course, is how truly fast was it?

I called in to see if it was an automated service or if I would actually receive help from an actual human. Initially, there is an automated message that directs to select a number so that Avast can direct your call to the right person.

This is a huge step above live chat, in my opinion, because you have the option of hearing a live persons voice for assistance.

Ive tested live chats on numerous VPNs and sometimes it took them hours to get back to me .

No live chat or email options were disappointing. The Twitter alternative was interesting, but so far has proved to be too slow. However, they saved it in the end with a quick, responsive call center.

Price And Value For Money

This VPN is not super expensive, but it has a higher cost than many of the popular options on the market.

If you are looking for a short-term VPN, Avast SecureLine VPN might be a good option. The VPNs monthly subscription price is reasonable for the value it offers.

If you purchase a longer subscription, you can get a discount off the monthly price. However, the discounts are not very significant.

If you are looking for a long-term VPN, there are other options out there like ExpressVPN that offer big discounts on long-term subscriptions.

Improvements Are Nice But Do Not Consistently Work

The latest release includes improvements that would make this a 5 star app if they worked consistently. Unfortunately Im still experiencing connection issues when I first unlock my phone, along with other random issues. After unlocking my phone about 50% of the time it will show me connected to vpn but I have no connectivity. When I open the SecureLine app it will say I have no connection and only option is retry button. I have to go into settings to physically turn off vpn to get access to my lte or WiFi. Then I can reconnect SecureLine. Another problem is with turning off vpn for short term like 15 minutes. It will not automatically reconnect after 15 min, and when I go to settings auto connect IS turned on but it says Im not connected to SecureLine because Im on a trusted network even though I have no trusted networks and it is listing zero. I have to try to disconnect to get reconnected to SecureLine. I actually suggested this feature over a year ago and hope they are able to shake out the bugs so it works as expected. Other random times the vpn icon will show Im connected but nothing will load until I change vpn location. Things still seem very buggy and not reliable. Im looking forward to the day I can unlock my phone and open an app/website without my SecureLine vpn locking things up.

Avast Secureline VPN Customer Service

Avast SecureLine VPN 2020 Cracked With Free Key [License ...

If you run into any issues while using Avast SecureLine VPN, there are a few places where you can get help.

The companys website has a well-organized help section that can answer most common questions that you might have.

The help center is searchable, but you can also browse guides and FAQs by topic.

If you cant find the answer to your question on the website, there is a contact form that you can fill out on the website to get in touch with Avast customer support.

Both the help center and the contact form are well-designed, but I was disappointed when I submitted a question and didnt receive a response.

Avast also offers a phone line that you can call to get help with any technical issues that you run into.

You can call and receive a free consultation, but the technical experts will then charge a hefty fee if you want them to help you fix your problem.

If I am paying a company to provide me with a VPN service, I dont expect to have to pay an additional fee to get live technical support.

Most of the big names in the VPN market right now provide 24/7 live chat support that you can use anytime at no additional cost.

Overall, I was impressed with the quality of Avasts help center but not very impressed with the quality of the companys customer service.

Does Avast Secureline VPN Work For Gaming

A good VPN for gaming needs to have the following:

  • A large server network
  • Fast speeds
  • Low ping to minimize gaming playback issues
  • Avast does not do well here because we have already seen that it has a smaller server network and mediocre speeds. There are many variables with ping, such as your ISP and proximity to a VPN server. Nonetheless, its clear that Avast VPN is not the best VPN for gaming that weve seen.

    External Audit: Is Secureline Safe

Avast SecureLine has not been audited by any external parties. This can raise some suspicion about the companys security, but why? Why is it important for a VPN to have an external audit?

A security audit is important to demonstrate the overall health of a project. Essentially, they are the second set of eyes. Audit firms can see whether or not a VPN is living up to its intent and service promise.

This is important as it allows users to gauge whether or not they should use a particular VPN. When a VPN is certified externally, it is a good indicator that they are doing what they promised to do, and doing it well.

ExpressVPN is one such service. They have been audited by PwC, meaning they are one of the trustworthy VPNs out there. However, there is more to consider.

Is Avast Secureline VPN Fast My Base Speed Dropped Significantly

AVAST SECURELINE VPN TEST & REVIEW 2021 âï¸? : How Good is Avast SecureLine VPN? âð¥

I found that Avast SecureLine VPN reduced my internet connection speeds significantly on most of its servers. To get an idea of how fast Avast SecureLine VPN is, I connected to several different servers and ran a series of speed tests using its OpenVPN protocol. The VPN claims to have no bandwidth limit. That means you should be able to get speeds up to 2 Gbits/s but this was not my experience.

    Is Avast Secureline VPN Fast

Avast SecureLine offers reasonable connection speeds to its users. We tested its performance when connected to different server locations like the US, the UK, and New Zealand using our 15 Mbps base internet connection.

    Here are the results:

Once we connected to its US server, the speed was:

After connecting to its Canadian server, the speed was:

Speed when connected to its New Zealand server:

The above results suggest that Avast VPN provided more than decent connection speed on its US Las Vegas server as the speed dropped by almost 30%. Similarly, the speed decreased by 35% when we connected to its Canadian server.

But when we tested Avast VPN speed on its New Zealand, the speed decreased by a significant margin of 60%. Overall, the service offers above-average connection speeds.

    Avast Secureline And Netflix

Using a VPN is great for security, but it can make some basic things really tedious. For example, Netflix blocks VPNs in order to prevent people from spoofing their location and watching videos that aren’t available in their real location.

That’s not an issue with Avast SecureLine. I had no trouble browsing Netflix and streaming TV shows while connected to a US-based server. That might change at a moment’s notice, however.

Streaming Does Avast Secureline VPN Work With Netflix

While connected to Avast SecureLine VPN, I was able to stream shows on Netflix without a problem.

The VPN was able to access multiple Netflix catalogs, including US Netflix. I was not blocked by Netflixs VPN ban at any time.

I was also able to access Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, HBO GO, and BBC iPlayer.

If youre looking for a VPN to help you access geo-restricted streaming content, Avast SecureLine VPN has proven itself to be a good choice.

    Do We Recommend Avast Secureline

Avast SecureLine VPN 2018 for Windows Review & Test ...

After reviewing all of the evidence, I dont recommend using Avasts VPN service.

The company provides a reasonably good free antivirus solution. Their VPN is incredibly easy to use. And the call-in customer service option was great!

But in the end, there are just too many issues to overlook.

The fact that it doesnt work with Netflix is a big one. Not everyone wants to stream over a VPN, but its a very common use for private networks.

Czech jurisdiction, the lack of router support, and pricing thats easy to beat all combine to make this a VPN thats not at the top of my list.

Avast Secureline is certainly not a bad VPN. Its very fast, supports torrenting, and only keeps connection logs. And we found that the connection was leak free for the most part.

But you can get those features without paying as much, and its easy to find a VPN that supports Netflix. All in all, Avast isnt a bad choice, but its certainly not the best one.

For me, there are better alternatives for Avast VPN.

Avast brags on their homepage about how fast their VPN service is.

So now its time to put them to the test literally!

I ran speed tests of their service on servers in the US and the Netherlands to see how they stack up against the competition.

Here are my results without VPN:

Here are our results with Avast VPN:

    US Server

Avast SecureLine offers two protocols, IPSec and OpenVPN on UDP with AES 256-bit encryption.

This is military-grade encryption. The 256 number refers to the encryption strength.

The short story is that 256-bit is the best in the business right now. Its considered virtually brute-force proof by many of the top government agencies and security professionals around the world.

Avast SecureLine also offers DNS leak protection. This handy little feature makes sure that none of your personal data might leak outside the VPN connection without you realizing it, divulging your browsing activity or true physical location.

    Secureline Netflix & Streaming Support

The Avast VPN terms of service state that it only operates 4-servers that are optimized for streaming. As a result, you can only watch streamed content by accessing their U.K., Miami, New York, and Gotham City.

We decided to put SecureLine to the test and try to watch geoblocked content on our favorite platforms. Starting with accessing U.S. YouTube, we were surprised to find that the service only offered full functionality through the New York server, and we had no issue streaming YouTube clips.

We remained logged into the New York server and tried to access Netflix. We experienced no difficulty streaming Netflix content, which can be a concern with some providers since Netflix often blocks new I.P.s

    Avast VPN Privacy And Jurisdiction

Avast claims that it has a no-log policy.

However, I perused their privacy policy and discovered that they do collect some data.

Since your data is sensitive, Avast claims that it processes, stores, or discloses it in line with relevant laws.

Youll be relieved to know that Avast Secureline VPN does the following to keep you undetectable:

    • Deletes the data every 30 days
    • Doesnt store any originating IP, data logs, or DNS queries.

The company also relies some on third-parties to help them analyze data, but still keep your identity anonymous. For Android and iOS, you get:

    • Google Crashytics

In a nutshell, Avast never discloses your data to any third parties except for:

    • Legal requirements only after a government body serves a valid subpoena.
    • Avast group for product development.
    • Provision of services for instance, when using your card or PayPal to make payments.

    Jurisdiction

Avast headquarters are in the Czech Republic. Now, for a long time, this country didnt have any laws requiring it to keep activity logs.

    Until 2019.

Today, this country is no longer privacy-friendly.

That means that the government has more power over your private online data, and that includes when using VPNs. Therefore, if the relevant authorities require your private data from this site, then the company will have no choice but to disclose it.

Is Avast Secureline VPN Good For Torrenting

Avast Secureline VPN Review – Good or Not?

Its nice that Avast SecureLine VPN is torrenting-friendly. The service even has dedicated P2P servers in the Czech Republic, France, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, and the US. Keep in mind that the other servers dont support torrenting at all.

When testing how the VPN handles torrenting, I noticed that the servers had some stability issues. Even though the connection speeds could get pretty fast , the speed fluctuated a lot. On the other hand, its good to see that there doesnt seem to be any throttling in place.

Keep in mind that there are no extra features for torrenting, like Surfsharks Tor over VPN servers or NordVPNs integrated SOCKS5 proxy.

    Does Not Work In China

The simple truth here is that Avast VPN does not work in China. So, if you are a traveler going behind the Great Firewall or located in China, this VPN will not be of help.

The only solution for this problem is to do your research properly if you need the best VPN for China. Right now, there is no way for you to use Avast SecureLine VPN in China.

Device Compatibility Very Few Compatible Devices

Avast SecureLine VPN is available for leading platforms such as Windows, macOS, Android, Android TV, iOS, and browser extension for Chrome and Firefox. That said, the VPN service is still limited in device compatibility. Avast does not have any manual configuration files so you wont be able to install it on your router, most smart TVs, gaming console, or other devices.

Its essential to ensure all of your devices are protected, so you need a VPN with a broad range of device compatibility. For a more versatile VPN, I recommend using ExpressVPN to cover all of your devices, including gaming consoles, smart TVs, and even your router.

Avast Caught Selling User Data Collected Through Their Antivirus Products

Avast secureline VPN License Key Free Download

In 2019, privacy experts discovered that Avast was harvesting user data through their antivirus products, then selling that data to third parties. According to the company,

The data is fully de-identified and aggregated and cannot be used to personally identify or target you.

The data that was collected did not include the users name, email address, or IP address. While we really dont like the idea of anyone selling user data like this, it doesnt sound like the data can be used to personally identify anyone.

That is, until you learn that every data record also includes a unique device ID, which persists until the user uninstalls the Avast antivirus from that device. The data that was being collected was extremely detailed, right down to every click the user made, and the exact millisecond that they clicked.

With that level of detail, it wouldnt be too hard to attach a persons identity to a device ID. For example, imagine that you have a website that offers a free newsletter. Imagine also that you are a buyer of Avasts data. You know that I, Heinrich Long, signed up for your newsletter on September 11, 2019, at 9:32:01.

Next, you go look at your Avast data, and see that exactly one person, using a computer with device ID 123abc, clicked the signup button for your newsletter on September 11, 2019, at 9:32:01.

While we do not know who bought this kind of data from Avast, they have reportedly stopped collecting user data in this way.
