Should I Use Norton Secure VPN

Norton Secure VPN Customer Support

Getting Started | Norton Secure VPN

Norton Secure VPN has a small support library with good setup and troubleshooting guides and in-depth frequently asked questions section. Theres also 24/7 live chat, support on social media platforms, and phone support .

The support library displays Quick Help guides on topics like Download and Install, Buy and Renew, and Help Protect & Fix, and the library also has a search option. While Id like to see Norton Secure VPN display all of the guides on the support page like CyberGhost VPN does, I like how the information in the support library is very detailed and thorough. I found the support guides very helpful, as they allowed me to resolve most of my issues. That said, I would like Norton Secure VPN to add video tutorials for setup like ExpressVPN and IPVanish offer.

On the other hand, Norton does provide a forum with an active community where you can post your questions or issues and interact with other users.

Norton Secure VPN is one of the few VPNs that has phone support. It covers 50+ countries, and the availability differs depending on the country . I tested the phone support line for my country , and I was connected to a live agent after answering a couple of automated questions. However, the agent was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and answered all of my questions.

Norton 360 VPN Vs Norton Secure VPN

What’s the difference between Norton 360 integral VPN and Norton Secure VPN ? It appears that with the new 360 update, stand-alone Secure VPN is redundant and hogging resources. Norton doesn’t explain, or even mention that it was included in 360 – it just shows up, under “Privacy.” I assume I should uninstall Secure VPN on my mobile devices? Disable the 360 integral VPN and use Secure VPN? Use both? What? TIA!

Is Expressvpn Faster Than Norton Secure VPN

Yes, ExpressVPN is faster than Norton Secure VPN. Since your VPN is your computers main connection to the internet, you need to use a service that wont slow you down by more than 20%.

If speeds are important to you, then I recommend you take a look at ExpressVPN. Its the fastest service out there, provides unlimited bandwidth, and you wont experience any slowdowns even when you connect to the other side of the planet. You can try it out risk-free before making a long-term commitment. Its backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can get a full refund if you dont like it.

Puntos a favor:

I like the fact that the app provides meprotection of my personal information while on the go. I often use my phone for work while I am out and about and sometimes I have to use public wi-fi to save data. I am aware that cybercriminals could steal my information as well as information from my job if not for the VPN feture.

I found the interface very easy to use. I found the $29.99 monthly price tag to be a little steep, but outsid of that there have not been too many cons that I can think of. the software is pretty much plug and play.

Logging Policy & Jurisdiction

We dissect the logging and privacy policies of every VPN. A VPN should never log:

  • Your real IP address
  • DNS requests

A base of operations outside of 14-Eyes or EU jurisdiction is preferable.

Norton Secure VPN is a product from a familiar and reputable cybersecurity company. It only collects aggregated performance data, which is far better than other big-brand VPN services. Given its private logging policy, you can trust Norton Secure VPN with your data.

Norton Secure VPN is owned by NortonLifeLock Inc. Its one of the worlds biggest cybersecurity software companies, best known for its antivirus solutions.

The company has been around since 1982 and in 2016 it launched its VPN service. Until November 2019, NortonLifeLock was known as Symantec when Broadcom Inc acquired Nortons Enterprise Security software division and took the name with it.

NortonLifeLock is based in California in the US, which isnt ideal for user privacy. The US has very intrusive surveillance laws and is a member of the Five Eyes international intelligence-sharing alliance.

Does that mean Nortons VPN wont keep you safe online? Lets take a look into its logging policy to find out.

Subscription Price Increases After The Initial Period

If you are like most people, you hate hidden clauses and surprises when it comes to payments.

The initial pricing for Norton Secure VPN is reasonable if you are a new user signing up for the first time.

The price of $39.99 for five devices sounds good. In fact, this would meet our criteria of a cheap VPN. But as you will see if you scroll down the page to the subscription details, the price is only for the first year. After that, your subscription reverts to full price. In this example, that is $79.99 per year, which isnt nearly as good a deal. They accept all major credit cards as well as PayPal.

Norton Secure VPN Is Easy To Use

Norton Secure VPN is really easy to use.

  • Launch the client from either the desktop icon or the System Tray.
  • Tap the Virtual Location tab.
  • Select a country and thats it.
  • If you arent picky about which country you appear to be in, theres an Auto-select option that will find the best country for you automatically. Heres the Windows app, connected to a location in the United States:

This simplicity would be ideal for people who are new to VPNs or who just want something that works out of the box, without having to fiddle with anything. This design is similar to what we noted in our NordVPN vs PIA comparison.

    VPN Ad And Tracker Blocker

One nice bonus feature of the Norton Secure VPN is its built-in ad and tracker blocker. I spoke to Support about this and it appears to be basic ad and tracker blocking, without any customization or options besides the ability to turn it on or off.

Using a good ad blocker with your VPN is not a bad idea, since ads can be very invasive. We have tested a handful of VPN ad blockers. Some do well, but others are not very effective, as we noted in the Cyberghost VPN review.

Now that weve covered the pros, lets examine the cons of Norton Secure VPN.

A great example is Chromecast, Google’s dead-simple method for getting content from your phone or computer onto your TV. If your VPN is running, you won’t be able to send video or media to your Chromecast. That’s because the VPN is preventing your device from communicating with other devices on your local network. You’ll have to switch off your VPN if you want to use this device, or others like it.

One solution to this problem is to look for a VPN that offer split-tunneling. This lets you designate which apps, and sometimes URLs, must use the VPN connection, or which should not use the VPN connection. Some VPNs make it even easier by allowing local area network traffic, meaning that the machine using the VPN can still talk to the devices on your network.

How Do I Turn On Norton VPN

  • Ensure your device security program is open.
  • You can open the My Norton page and enable it by clicking Turn On next to Secure VPN. Once this has been done, turn on your PureVPN connection, or select Open if the connection still remains protected.
  • You can enable the VPN switch in the Secure VPN window.
  • If Ad Tracker Blocking is enabled in Settings Toggle Ad Tracker Logging erch to block or allow ad tracking.
  • Is Norton VPN Worth It

Norton VPN is a mid-range VPN which offers fundamental features, such as split tunneling and a kill switch to help you remain anonymous online.

While it can definitely protect your data, it neither supports torrenting nor unblocks a variety of streaming platforms. Likewise, if you need a VPN that would be P2P-compatible and able to give access to Netflix or other popular platforms, its not the best option.

However, if youre looking for an additional layer of security as you browse online, or connect to unknown wireless networks, Norton VPN is a solid add-on to its antivirus service. Its quite affordable, and it does quite well at handling basic tasks.

    Norton Secure VPN Review 2020

Norton lets you choose a subscription that renews monthly or annually, with a discount for the longer of the two. You can also choose a plan that covers one, five, or 10 devices. Five is the industry average for the number of simultaneous connections permitted with a subscription. I appreciate this level of flexibility, since it lets customers tailor the offering to their needs.

Why Should I Use A VPN

Using your most trusted VPN service can help transform your connection to the internet into a safer and more secure experience. It can enhance the security of your personal information and your online privacy.

For instance, consider the dangers of using public Wi-Fi. Cybercriminals may be able to access personal data you send and receive, even if the network youre on is password-protected. In some cases, the data can be used to steal personal information or to access your online accounts. A VPN can help protect your data in two ways. For one, it can help prevent data from being stolen through a phony public Wi-Fi set up by a cybercriminal. It can also help protect data being passed on a legitimate public Wi-Fi thats been hacked by a cybercriminal.

The enhanced online privacy provided by a VPN is also a reason for considering the use of a VPN for your devices at home even when you are not on public Wi-Fi.

In short, heres what the benefits of a VPN look like. VPNs help protect by:

  • Encrypting the data sent and received over the Web.
  • Masking your location for anonymity
  • Securing the personal information you send and receive while on public Wi-Fi, helping to protect your online data being vulnerable to attacks like spear-phishing.
  • Norton Secure VPN Streaming & Torrenting

Norton Secure VPN isnt good for accessing streaming sites in my tests, it worked with Netflix and Amazon Prime, but it failed to access Disney+ and many other streaming sites.

Honestly, ExpressVPN and CyberGhost VPN are the best providers for streaming Netflix and other popular apps.

If you want to torrent, look elsewhere Norton Secure VPN doesnt allow P2P traffic. In fact, Norton Secure VPN disconnected when I attempted to download a P2P file, and I couldnt reconnect until I closed my torrent client.

My top VPN choices for torrenting are ExpressVPN, ProtonVPN, and Private Internet Access. Each of these providers has excellent speeds, top-notch security, and works with the most popular torrenting clients.

Overall, Norton Secure VPN is clearly not my favorite VPN when it comes to streaming and torrenting. Norton Secure VPN works with Netflix and Amazon Prime but not much else, and torrenting isnt allowed on any server.

Should I Use A VPN At Home

VPNs are especially useful when you are browsing the web through public Wi-Fi, whether you are at a coffee shop, hotel lobby, or public library. But a VPN can also protect your privacy when youre at home, keeping your browsing safe from prying eyes. You can also use a VPN to access streaming content from your home that might be otherwise locked in your area.

Norton Secure VPN Review – HONEST REVIEW!
  • Open your Norton device security product.

If you see the My Norton window, next to Secure VPN, from the drop-down menu, click Settings.

  • In the Settings window, next to Split Tunnel, click the icon.

  • In the Split Tunnel window, move the slider to enable the feature.

In the App Excluded section, click Add and select the application that you want to exclude from the Secure VPN traffic.

  • In the alert message that you receive, click OK.

The newly selected apps will be excluded from your Secure VPN traffic when you turn on VPN next time.

The alert message appears only when Secure VPN is turned on in Norton 360.

Why You Shouldnt Use A VPN

No VPN can solve the problem of magically encryption traffic. It would not be possible to prevent plaintext from being delivered by the endpoint. Your connection to a VPN is encrypted at the point of your establishment to the VPN provider. Remember that VPN providers can see and mess with your data.

Customer Support Has Plusses And Minuses

The Support information for NortonLifeLock products can be a little hard to find. Not the Support area itself youll find a link to that at the top of most every page on their website. Then look for a Products & Services menu at the top of the page. Once you get there, youll see an FAQ section, additional resources, and a search box to track down the answer you need. Despite all the options here, I found it hard to find the specific information I wanted, so scrolled to the bottom of the window and selected Contact Support.

I used the 24 hour live chat system to get more information directly from the Customer Support team. The service here was really fast and the rep was helpful.

There is a large community area with discussion forums, ideas , and blogs. Navigating this area can be confusing, so youll want to scan down the right side of the window and look for relevant filters you can use to narrow your focus.

    Norton Secure VPN Review: User

With a pedigree that includes online security giants like Norton and LifeLock, you would expect the Norton Secure VPN to be an industry leader. But the kids dont always live up to their parents expectations, as you will see in this Norton Secure VPN review.

In this Norton VPN review, we take you along as we look at the pros and cons of Norton Secure VPN. In particular, weve highlighted the factors that we dont like. Not because we dislike Norton, LifeLock, or their Secure VPN, but because there are so many other good VPN services to choose from. Norton Secure VPN is a security app that helps keep you safe while you surf the web. It also helps in blocking ad trackers by intercepting cookies and removing your identifying information.

How Can A VPN Help Protect Against Identity Theft

Identity theft occurs when thieves steal your personal information and use it to commit crimes in your name like taking over or opening new accounts, filing tax returns in your name, or renting or buying property. A VPN can help protect against identity theft by helping protect your data. It creates an encrypted tunnel for the data you send and receive thats out of reach of cyberthieves.

If your smartphone’s Wi-Fi is enabled at all times, your device could be vulnerable without you ever knowing it. Everyday activities like online shopping, banking and browsing can expose your information, making you vulnerable to cybercrime.

A VPN can protect the information you share or access using your devices. Thats especially important when using a public Wi-Fi network, where a cyberthief on the same network could capture your login credentials and the credit card number you type in when you shop online.

You cant prevent identity theft. No one can. Some security aspects like a data breach at an organization where you have an account are out of your control. But a VPN can help safeguard the information you send from and receive on your devices.
