Streaming Norton Secure VPN Unblocks Netflix And Uktv
Norton Secure VPN only unblocks a couple of streaming platforms, so its not a good choice if you want to watch international movies and shows. Before I started testing, I looked at Nortons policies to see what I should expect. My conclusion is that Norton did not put any effort into a VPN that unblocks streaming platforms.
I could unblock UKTV and Netflix from its UK and US servers but no other platforms. The other platforms I tested recognized the VPN and completely blocked my access.
Recapping Norton Secure VPN
As a standalone VPN, Norton Secure doesnt have a whole lot to offer beyond basic privacy protection. But the truth is, this VPN isnt necessarily intended to be a standalone service. When thought of as an add-on to a more robust antivirus system, Norton Secure makes a whole lot more sense. We were provided basic protection with minimal maintenance, and there was little customization or advanced features that required our attention. But along with this basic protection, we found some holes in the service, like a lack of a kill switch, some problematic privacy issues in logging our anonymized IP address, and issues with streaming services and BitTorrent support. Norton Secure is fine as a set-and-forget service, but for those interested in a serious, dedicated VPN, wed recommend looking elsewhere.
Features And Ease Of Use
While the idea of setting up a Virtual Private Network might sound complicated, Norton Secure VPN Privacy keeps things simple.
When you launch the app, it gives you the option to turn on the VPN. Doing so automatically creates a private network using the public WiFi. Youll see this is working when the small map showing your location changes from red with the words Unsecured Connection underneath to green and Secured Connection.
Thats it. No fiddling with network settings or proxy servers.
Now you can search the web with your normal browser, use online banking, access and send sensitive data, all in the knowledge that youre protected by the same encryption technologies used by the major banks. Norton Secure VPN helps keep your online identity and activity anonymous when you use the Web. Norton Secure VPN is a no-log VPN that encrypts your personal information and doesnt track or store your online activity or location.
Along with maintaining your privacy, the app has a couple of other very useful features. The first prevents ad-trackers from using cookies to follow you around the web and continually serve annoying ads. The other is masking your IP address and location.

Surfshark is a cheap VPN that works extremely well with Netflix. It unblocks 15 libraries, and has no bandwidth limitations or data caps, and delivers speeds that are on par with other leading VPN providers.
Although Surfsharks network is of similar size to Norton Secure VPN, it has servers in twice the number of countries. While none of the servers are specifically optimized for streaming, we found that almost all of them worked flawlessly with Netflix, as well many other streaming sites such as Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and BBC iPlayer.

Norton Secure VPN Streaming & Torrenting
Norton Secure VPN isnt good for unblocking streaming sites it unblocked Netflix content libraries in the US, Japan, and Spain in my tests, but it couldnt access libraries in the UK, Canada, and Brazil. While I was able to watch TV shows and movies on Amazon Prime, Norton Secure VPN failed to overcome geoblocks with Disney+, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, and many other streaming sites.
Honestly, ExpressVPN and CyberGhost VPN are the best providers for streaming Netflix and other popular apps.
If you want to torrent, look elsewhere Norton Secure VPN doesnt allow P2P traffic. In fact, Norton Secure VPN disconnected when I attempted to download a P2P file, and I couldnt reconnect until I closed my torrent client.
My top VPN choices for torrenting are ExpressVPN, ProtonVPN, and Private Internet Access. Each of these providers has excellent speeds, top-notch security, and works with the most popular torrenting clients.
Overall, Norton Secure VPN is clearly not my favorite VPN when it comes to streaming and torrenting. Norton Secure VPN unblocks Netflix and Amazon Prime but not much else, and torrenting isnt allowed on any server.

This VPN is located in a 5 Eyes country, as I found in this review.
All of Norton operation is headquartered in Mountain View, California. While the US may be a safe place for an Antivirus company to run its operations, but VPN is a different business.
Since VPNs are used to perform privacy-sensitive tasks, it is extremely important that they retain no information about your online activities. Because the US is a key member of the Five Eyes surveillance alliance, it can be difficult for VPN providers to guarantee user privacy and protect them from state surveillance.
Nonetheless, there are no mandatory data retention laws enforced on VPNs in the US and if the VPN itself isnt storing your logs, then it doesnt matter even if the provider is based in a country with a lot of surveillance.

Norton should already be a familiar name to you, thanks to its antivirus software. But the company also recently unveiled a new product Norton Secure VPN, formerly known as Norton WiFi Protection.

As you can see, our speed on Windows was much slower, especially with regards to ping rate and upload speeds . Download speeds were surprisingly good, coming in only 27 percent slower than without the VPN running.
Now lets see how the tests went on Mac:
The ping rate on our Mac was about three times slower, and the download rate was around 30 percent slower as well; but impressively, upload speeds barely lost anything at all, coming in only four percent slower.
Generally speaking, Norton Secure VPNs speeds are roughly in line with the normal degradation of service weve come to expect from VPNs. We werent blown away by blazing speeds with the VPN connected, but it also didnt bring our computers to a total crawl while it was operational.

Norton’s Servers And Server Locations
Norton offers VPN servers in 79 locations in 30 countries. If a VPN company has a diverse offering of server locations, you can be assured that no matter where you go, you’ll find a server nearby for better performance. It also means you have several locations to choose from when spoofing your location.
The VPNs I’ve tested have VPN servers in an average of about 52 countries. TunnelBear, an excellent VPN service, has servers in just 23 countries, while ExpressVPN covers a whopping 94. Norton Secure VPN’s offering is on the low side, but it does effectively span the globe. Especially notable are Norton’s servers in South Africa, as most other VPNs ignore the entire continent. Still, I’d like to see Norton expand its presence, particularly in South America. Norton also does not provide servers in Russia or Vietnam areas with particularly repressive internet policies. It does offer servers in Turkey and VPN servers in Hong Kong.
As for the number of servers, Norton offers some 2,800 in total. Note, however, that there isn’t necessarily a direct correlation between the number of servers and quality of service. It’s notable that Norton is on the higher end, although CyberGhost currently leads the pack with 5,900 servers.

Just what is the point in having Norton 360 | Secure VPN when it interferes with sending and receiving emails and browser searches?
This is not device specific, it is happening on my Windows 10 devices as well as my Android devices.
I bought Secure VPN to add another layer of security against intrusion, but all VPN is doing is interfering with my internet use. I have to turn VPN off to get my emails and browser search results!!
Is there no solution from Norton?

When you activate Norton VPN, you can let the service handle the connection for you, or you can manually select the country for your VPN server. As of this review, the server network is limited, with locations in 31 countries. This selection of locations is on the low side when you consider that other large VPNs give you more than 50 countries to choose from, as you can see with NordVPN and IPVanish.
Note also that we said you can choose the country. Unlike most services, you can select the country you want, but not a specific city within that country. In some cases, that is just fine. In others, it can be a real problem.
The problem is further exacerbated by the fact that we dont know exactly how many locations Secure VPN has in the United States, nor how we get assigned to one of these spaces when we connect. Heres an example of the kinds of problems this can cause.
My bank gets twitchy when I log in from a different location than I did the time before. I have to go through various steps to confirm my identity every time this happens. With Norton Secure VPN, I dont know where I will connect within the United States. This time when I connected, it was to a New York IP address. Last time it was to a California IP address. This would make my banks security system go crazy which would drive me crazy.
The inability to control what city you log into is a major drawback of this VPN.
